Personality:

Kagami is a manipulative and remorseless person. He was never truly invested in interpersonal relationships. On the surface he'll appear to be allies with a whole gamut of individuals at the same time, but his loyalty is to himself.

One could be tempted to superficially tag him as a vain pretty-boy metrosexual type. That is, the sort with no aspirations in life other than to flirt with women and to adorn all the covers of men's fashion magazines. Midou Ban called him a 'goddamned bar host' for a reason. Kagami's got a gift at cultivating a disarmingly smooth facade to distract people from his real motives. He has a history peppered with faked infatuations and shattered alliances. Suave, charming, and often facetious in demeanor, Kagami may come across to others as a refreshing but occasionally disturbing alternative to the geeky scientist stereotype. It may shock new acquaintances to find out he was really a highly educated thinker before arriving in Purgatorium.

In his work he is both methodical and chaotic. His analytical mind prefers logic-based thinking with an adventurous dose of intuition, which means he'll deal within a rational framework but regards safe as boring after a while. For that reason, he will occasionally find ways to spice up situations to the dismay of his collaborators. Certainly no stranger to hunches, he will take risks now and then in order to build on his knowledge base and personal power, with or without telling those he's working with. He can be unpredictable in organizations, weighing the consequences and breaking rules anyway. Kagami has been repeatedly suspected of leading a double life by those who know him better than others, always on the verge of switching sides in whatever power struggles he finds himself a part of.

Now that he's in Purgatorium, Kagami has every opportunity to examine himself in order to climb to the upper level. Stripped of his powers and his previous status in life, he's behaving more like himself in casual moments. He's going through a period of sullenness from having been made so helpless, and he sees everything from a sardonic and irreverent perspective. After all, as a creator of a virtual world and a 'false god' himself, he finds it both ironic and infuriating that he's now trapped in another's creation (after having been trapped and killed in his own).

Furthermore, his excessive pride makes it awkward for him to bite the bullet and get a menial job just in order to behave, although he may be motivated to do so should something fascinating to him turn up. On good days, he'll act a casual observer and only really get into mischief if the situation presents itself in an irresistible way. He has a playful and occasionally morbid sense of humor used to annoy those he knows. On bad days, which is often, he'll be inwardly grouchy and resent the lack of general cleanliness on the lower level. He really was a prissy one, after all - that part wasn't an act.

Pre-Purgatorium Background:

Kagami was referred to as the Lord of the Looking Glass due to his powers and high status within the Infinite Castle hierarchy. He was a resident of the upper echelons, a citizen of Babylon City, where he served as a scientist on a massive virtual reality project. He later entered the realm of virtual reality as a spy and falsely offered his allegiance to MakubeX, the child king of Lower Town.

His duties were to follow MakubeX's movements and report back to the Voodoo King during a prolonged struggle between Babylon City, the real world, and the created virtual world. His involvements included siding with Ban during certain missions, fighting Akabane for business and pleasure, uniting Himiko with her mirror equivalent, while apparently sleeping with her twin, and observing Ginji in his Thunder Emperor mode, among other mischievous side quests like hospitalizing Fudou so that he could resume his hunt for Ban.

As he meddled, he built his knowledge base and became so informed he was regarded as being too dangerous. He was assassinated prior to his entry to Purgatorium and died with a smirk on his face.

Fighting Tactics:

Kagami prefers strategy, stealth, and surprise over brute force in battle. Currently powerless in Purgatorium, he has only his unusual speed to work with as well as whatever throwing weapons he can scrounge up.

If allowed the space and traction to move quickly on the ground, he has the capability to pack lots of force behind his physical attacks in short bursts. He moves as a blur and is very agile in terms of pivoting, balancing, flipping in mid-air, and landing on his feet. His throwing aim is also exceedingly accurate. He had regularly and effortlessly thrown razor-sharp shards of glass to great success when he had his powers. Any small to medium-sized sharp object he can get his hands on can be potentially turned into a deadly weapon. He can throw relatively long distances and from almost any position where there is light for him to see.

The poor conditions on the lower level has taken a toll on his health. He has lost weight and is often cold. He is vulnerable if cornered, held off the ground, or prevented from leveraging his speed in any way.

Silenced Powers:

These abilities will not be active until Kagami makes it to the upper level.

Kagami can be immediately fatal to the unprepared. His invisible Diamond Dust attack spreads a cloud of fine glass powder floating over a wide area. It will kill upon being breathed in or absorbed through the skin. Tell-tale symptoms include the coughing up of blood, irritated eyes, and an agonizing burning sensation in the lungs and throat as the body is quickly shredded up from the inside. He theoretically has the ability to sneak up to and murder an entire crowd of people within seconds.

For defense and the spread of confusion, Kagami can generate panels of reflective glass that blend seamlessly into his surroundings and create multiples of himself. (The powdered dust can have the same effect on a finer level, with light reflecting off the tiny edges.) There are many uses for such mirrors depending on how they are placed. Illusionary tricks also include appearing to turn invisible, replacing his physical self with a mirror (in reality, he simply generates a mirror in front of himself and dodges away), and simply appearing to someone suddenly out of 'thin air' as though he were a ghost. While Kagami isn't any more physically immune to light-based attacks than the average person, it can be fairly difficult to hit him with all the reflective glass in the way.

As physical objects, the mirrors can be also used as makeshift shields. They're fragile and will break like a regular mirror would, although they can be replaced just as quickly. As pieces, they make great throwing weapons. The shards would not be able to penetrate armor or really thick materials, but a shower of them can bleed a regularly-clad opponent to weakness. And of course, a slice to any major artery can kill a normal person. An especially aggressive attack of glass shards can shred off a person's entire limb. This attack backfired on Kagami in his previous life - he lost his right arm moments before he was killed (see Get Backers manga). Kagami has also mastered the art of stripping someone naked rushing in repeatedly with the shards employed as a knife (see episode 20 of Get Backers).

Current Situation:

Kagami arrived in Purgatorium alone and was taken in by Kazuki after Akabane ran him through with a sword in his own world.

Unarmed and unwilling to sweep floors, he gave himself his first pseudo-job that consisted of luring monsters into Kazuki's string traps and killing them. This changed when Kazuki moved out and Toshiki pulled down the traps and threw Kagami out after a scuffle.

Now he's investigating the sea monster situation with Claire and starting his first real job as a lab assistant at Nyarlathotep's workshop.
